Meet Our Founder:
Guanyi Yang, Ph.D.

Dr. Guanyi Yang founded Focalize Solutions to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world decision-making. As the Gerald L. Schlessman Assistant Professor of Economics and Business at Colorado College and a Fellow at the Global Labor Organization, Dr. Yang brings years of experience working with complex economic models to address policy-relevant challenges.

With a Ph.D. in Economics from The Ohio State University, Dr. Yang’s academic foundation is reflected in his work, from developing survey instruments to analyzing nationally representative data and cross-country comparisons. Dr. Yang’s technical expertise spans programming in STATA, MATLAB, and FORTRAN, enabling precise analysis of large-scale datasets and policy simulations.

Dr. Yang’s research has appeared in renowned journals such as the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics and the European Economic Review. He has presented his findings at international conferences, including events at the University of Colorado Boulder, Georgetown University, the University of Lisbon, the Indian Insitute of Management Bangalore, and the Renmin University of China—illustrating his ability to engage global audiences and collaborate across institutions.

At Focalize Solutions, Dr. Yang draws on this experience to provide clients with tailored solutions, whether conducting complex economic valuations or building models to test policy impacts. Projects often involve designing surveys to address client-specific questions, analyzing trends in labor market dynamics, and translating findings into clear, actionable reports.

In addition to delivering technical results, Dr. Yang has led collaborative initiatives such as Colorado College’s "Dark Sky Lab," which assesses the socioeconomic effects of environmental conditions on local communities.
